Houstonians sure do love their barbecue and their sports. Lucky for us, the team behind the soon-to-open Smoke'n Honey House is getting ready to serve you up a big helping of both.

With roughly 14,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space, over 150 flat-screen TVs and a brand new Oyler Barbecue Pit by J&R, chef Gilbert Arismendez (of Holy Cow Cookers fame—they won the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's Bar-B-Que contest eight times and were finalists in the brisket competition this year) is ready to make your trip to their new brick-and-mortar location out at 8801 North Loop East well worth your while.

While the Smoke'n Honey House staff, led by general manager, Wes Corley (formerly of Twin Peaks, no surprise given the comely Smoke'n Honeys staffing the place) is working around the clock to get ready for their official opening on May 30, they have been doing weekly popups at Bar Blue in Rice Village to give everyone a taste of the goodies to come. We recently joined them to see just what our taste buds have to look forward to once they are fully up and running. Since the pop-ups serve a limited menu, we got to sample nearly everything, including portions of the brisket sliders, street corn, mac 'n' cheese and tacos.

Conclusion? They weren't kidding when they said chef Gilbert knew a thing or two about brisket. We had another dinner planned after stopping by the pop-up, but the brisket was so tender we helped ourselves to three servings of the sliders. The street corn was also excellent enough to warrant ordering up two servings. The rest of the items in the round-up were also quite good, so if the menu selections at their pop-ups are any indication of what's to come, we will see y'all at Smoke'n Honey House at the end of the month.
