Some of the many options you have with Perfect Fit Meals.

On a particularly busy day in the life of a Houstonian, heading home to cook a meal for lunch or dinner probably isn't a viable option. Our city certainly has no shortage of great restaurants, but even a trip to your favorite eatery can consume too much precious time and too many precious dollars from your bank account.

Enter Perfect Fit Meals to try to save the day, or at least your dinner plans. Found at grocery stores across the Bayou City and beyond, Perfect Fit Meals aims to be a good, clean alternative to fast-food lunches and numerous dinners out. The meals heat in the average microwave at around two minutes, and cost about as much as a double meat Whataburger meal, with the alleged extra health benefit of saving you the calories and carbs.

Jessica Coon, the company's research and development chef, says the goal of Perfect Fit Meals is to "provide a well-balanced, ready-to-heat meal that is made with the best ingredients possible." She adds that recipes are brainstormed and tested repeatedly, then reviewed by customers, staff members, and retailers.

The menu includes chicken Parmesan (390 calories, 4 grams of fat), Southwest-style chicken (300 calories, 6 grams of fat), and Texas chicken ranch casserole (380 calories, 8 grams of fat). Ingredients are given an extended shelf-life through the use of a high-pressure processing technique, killing the bacteria while leaving the nutrition and taste unharmed. “You will also notice that our meals are not packaged in a box,” says Coon. “We use a vacuum skin seal so that you can actually see the product.”

If the extensive menu of nutrition-focused meals isn’t enough to give it your attention, Perfect Fit Meals is a local company, with a corporate office and production facility in Houston. Perfect Fit Meals teamed up with multiple organizations to aid in the recovery after Hurricane Harvey, being part of a donation drive for The Unmentionables, which helps to provide personal hygiene essentials to those in need. It also collected over 400 meals to feed first responders, alongside their established partnership with the Houston Food Bank.

And soon, Perfect Fit Meals will be adding to its paleo line, which currently includes hunter-gatherer chicken (300 calories, 6 grams of fat), Jamaican-style jerk chicken (360 calories, 7 grams of fat), and a turkey skillet scramble (350 calories, 14 grams of fat).

Coon says she grabs the herb-crusted chicken (320 calories, 8 grams of fat) when she's in the mood for a lighter take on old-fashioned comfort food. It just so happens that she devised the recipe herself.

“You can't go wrong with that provolone, uncured bacon sauce," she says.

Healthy? Bacon? We'll give it a go.
