Food News: Continental, Gulf Coast, Irish Concepts All Opening This Week

Plus, another In-N-Out? Say it's so! (It's so.)

IT'S MONDAY. Let’s start the week by cleaning out the inbox and scouring the Houston food and drink scene. Here is your weekly news update.

It's opening day for Bisou, a continental concept from the Clé Group inside a mixed-use development at 4444 Westheimer Road.

French Master Chef Frédéric Perrier, whose previous work in Houston includes his Cafe Perrier, leads the kitchen here. Dishes include big-ticket dishes like tomahawk ribeye a la Fiorentina; a rack of lamb with goat cheese; and hamachi sashimi with pan-seared foie gras, apple butter, and lillet. There also promises to be an exciting brunch service at Bisou, plus an extensive wine list and champagne roster. Bisou will be open 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday–Tuesday, 11a.m.–midnight Wednesday-Saturday, and 10 a.m.–10 p.m. Sunday.

Jack & Ginger's, the Irish pub and grill concept from Union Venture Group, is opening Thursday at 2416 Brazos. Look for Irish-American fare like fish and chips, shepherd's pie (but with braised short rib), and a smoked salmon sandwich. Otherwise, find burgers and bar fare like jumbo shrimp corn dogs and reuben potato skins. A Sunday brunch will include an Irish coffee bar plus a big ol' maple-butter biscuit sandwich. And as it's an Irish pub, you'll get cocktails, Irish whiskey, and more than 100 beers on tap. Hours are 11 a.m.–2 a.m. Monday–Friday, and 10 a.m.–2 a.m. Saturday–Sunday.

And coming Friday is Tribute at the Houstonian. Offering what it calls a sophisticated and vibrant scene, Tribute will unveil a dinner menu that "pays tribute" to the region (north, south, and east of the border), with dishes like wood-grilled Gulf Coast oysters and Texas-raised Angus filet mignon, and for lunch, a po'boy and smoked chicken salad on Goode Co. jalapeño cheese toast. A custom wine room includes more than 3,500 bottles, while the main dining room features another 1,000 in bespoke wine cabinets. Heading the kitchen is Neal Cox, with Juan Tuch serving as sous and Jeff Bodreaux taking the role of chef de cuisine. The Houstonian Hotel is at 111 N. Post Oak Lane, and Tribute hours are 6:30–11 a.m. (breakfast), 11 a.m.–3 p.m. (lunch), and 5–10 p.m. (dinner) daily.

As part of the Four Seasons Houston's monthlong support of breast cancer awareness, its concepts are offering two specialty cocktails: the Pink Ribbon (vodka, aloe, cucumber liquor, hibiscus, lime) at Bayou & Bottle, and Susan's Daiquiri (rum, lime juice, turbinado syrup, butterfly pea flower tea extract) at Vinoteca.

The construction on Memorial has sparked Benjamin and Daniel Berg of Carmelo's Cucina Italiana to do something. The Italian restaurant has launched new menus to thank patrons for putting up with the roadwork near the building. Those menus include a Memorial Power Lunch ($19.81/person) that includes three courses (plus separate drink specials); a Nightly Wine & Dine ($65/person), a wine-tasting menu with three courses; and a Sunday Supper Menu ($29.95/adult, $11.95 ages 12 and younger), with three appetizers, entrees, and desserts.

The Urban Harvest Saturday Farmers Market quarterly chef demo series begins this week with Olivier Ciesielski of Avondale Food & Wine (you may remember he swapped his French concept L'Olivier for Avondale). Ciesielski will prepare a butternut squash ravioli as a holiday-inspired dish. Future chef demo events are scheduled for Jan. 26, May 18, and Aug. 17, 2019. The market is at 2752 Buffalo Speedway and opens at 8 a.m.

For brunch on Sunday, and then Nov. 1 (Diá de Muertos), Arnaldo Richards' Picos will be offering specialty Day of the Dead desserts including the very fall-centric calabaza en dacha, pan de muetro, and sweet cocada. Also on Nov. 1, Picos will host the Don Julio tequila truck, and with its arrival comes a $10 margarita special. Bottoms up.

KHOU reported first that In-N-Out Burger, whose first Houston location is set to open in Stafford, is now launching a second Bayou City-area location in Katy. According to KHOU, the location is at I-10 and Katy Fort Bend Road. 

But wait ... there's more! In-N-Out still has that possible third Houston location lined up at 8373 Westheimer, according to KHOU. No timetable on that one still, according to reports. But can't you just taste the animal-style burgers?
