If you can’t get enough of delicious pies during the holidays, how’d you like to drink one?
The new BuffBurger location on Alabama is heading up the burger spot’s first foray into cocktail programs, and it’s clear they want to get it right the first time. BuffBurger worked with the Ladies of Libation, a consulting group of some of the top local barwomen, to develop the fun lineup to complement their already popular burgers and fries.
The current cocktails include a margarita; a cranberry mule that highlights Deep Eddy cranberry vodka; a sweet tea cocktail with Deep Eddy sweet tea vodka; a spicy Thai gin cocktail made with Thai pepper-infused gin, lemongrass, and ginger; a Black Cow (spiced rum and ice cream); and an old-fashioned ode to pecan pie.
I stopped by during Thanksgiving week to try out that cocktail version of pecan pie. The Pie in the Sky Old Fashioned is made with a house-infused, roasted-pecan-bonded bourbon, walnut bitters, and turbinado sugar. I loved that it didn’t lean heavily into sickly sweet territory like its namesake, but I would have liked a bit more pecan flavor. I’m hoping that as the bourbon is infused longer, it will get a more powerful punch of pecan to round out the drink.
BuffBurger has the start of a good thing here, and I’m looking forward to seeing what else they bring to the bar. We’ve already lauded them for sourcing locally, making their own buns and sauces from scratch, introducing on-site catering, and launching some damn good breakfast sandwiches. We’re sure the bar program will flourish, too.
