If you're into unicorns, all of your foodie dreams are about to come true.
The Magical Dessert Bar is coming to 907 Westheimer Road in Montrose, opening on March 9. Think of it as a dessert mecca for those who love unicorns and rainbows, with a menu that likely will include cookies, cakes, pink hot chocolate, and milkshakes topped with sweets. The concept made its debut in Dallas last December and is later planning to open in Austin and the Los Angeles area.
But this isn't the first Houston foray for its owners. This bar is the brainchild of the owners of Chills 360, which will be nearby. Usman Babar, co-owner of Chills 360 and Magical Dessert Bar, thinks the Bayou City can handle crazy unicorn treats.
“When we opened Chills 360 and it did quite well, we knew we could take the opportunity of gaining ground on the large Houston food scene,” Babar said.
The place has already garnered a lot of attention on Instagram for its colorful creations. But despite all the hype, several visitors have left negative reviews on Yelp. The reviews complain about long lines, a lack of seating spaces, and expensive dessert prices. Moreover, a recent Central Track article also mentioned concerns that some images used to market its desserts weren't actually photos from Magical Dessert Bar.
Still, more than 6,000 people have indicated their interest in attending the Magical Dessert Bar grand opening event, where rainbow and unicorn-themed treats will be served from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m.
