It's a mystery no more: Traveler's Table, from first-time founder and owner Matthew Mitchell, will open this October at 520 Westheimer Road in Montrose.

The mystery was first reported by Eater in April, when Traveler's Table showed up in the TABC application listings. The restaurant has been of interest since it's going into the former Aqui space (the restaurant from disgraced chef Paul Qui closed last December).

So, who's Mitchell? According to an announcement Tuesday, he's a former journalist and writer who has lived abroad and traveled quite a bit; he's also received formal culinary training, including stints at local restaurants.

He has hired Jordan Economy (formerly of Rudyard's, Boheme) to run the kitchen as executive chef, and has also brought in Austin Moreno (whose recent past includes stints in the Philippines, Hong Kong, and China) to be general manager. The team will serve up globally influenced food like pho soup dumplings; Thai-, Belgian-, and Spanish-style Prince Edward Island mussels; Middle Eastern vegan flatbread; Chinese five-spice duck; pad Thai; Indian butter chicken; spaghetti carbonara; and Jamaican jerk pork shank. A specialty vegetable board will feature a rotating selection of preparations unique to regions of the world (think Indian-spiced okra and Mexican street corn).

There'll even be some dishes traditionally thought of as American at Traveler's Table, including a cheddar and bacon burger, shrimp and grits, and New Orleans-style bread pudding.

Cocktails will also span the globe, from a boba tea cocktail to a Mumbai Mule, and from a Japanese old-fashioned to a watermelon margarita.

Traveler's Table will also have a—wait for it—traveler's table, which can seat 16 and will encourage communal meals. The space will seat 141 inside, plus 32 on a covered patio, for lunch and dinner daily.
