How do you know if you've written a good book? One sign is that you get to promote it on national television.

Chris Shepherd will do just that on Tuesday night, as he'll be one of the guests on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live!. He'll come on after actor Henry Cavill but before musician Beck. (I'd call that "a good show.")

Shepherd will talk about his first book Cook Like a Local: Flavors That Can Change How You Cook and See the World, and he'll also whip up his famous Korean braised goat and dumplings for Kimmel. If you want the dish (and don't want to travel to Los Angeles for the taping), you can visit the Hay Merchant on Tuesday night, where it'll be $10 during a watch party.

Watch Jimmy Kimmel Live! at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday on ABC.

Once the holidays end and the calendar turns, all our attention will be focused on one thing ... Rodeo. (What did you think I was going to say?)

To whet our whistles before yee-haw season is officially in session, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo recently announced the winners of its 2020 Rodeo Uncorked! International Wine Competition. Some names you should know include the top Texas wine, Bingham Family Vineyards's Dugout Red; the top value wine, Raywood Merlot (2017); the top Texas winery, Becker Family Vineyards; and the Grand Champion Best of Show, Piper-Heidsieck Brut, a champagne from Napa Valley. These wines, plus selections from winning wineries, will be available in stores across the city during Rodeo season and at the the 2020 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (March 3-22, 2020).
