The dog days of summer are about to get so much better.
This DOGust, head over to Woodshed Smokehouse in Levy Park from some good, old-fashioned barbecue as well as new-school ’cue, like brisket banh mi sandwiches, and top it all off by playing with some puppies. It’s a dream come true.
Woodshed owner Tim Love is partnering all month with Lola’s Lucky Day, a local nonprofit that rescues stray dogs in Texas and re-homes them in Wisconsin, to raise awareness for the organization. From noon to 4 p.m. every Sunday for a month, starting August 1, folks will be able to play with rescues on the patio, which Love designed to be pet-friendly and comfortable.

“It’s something that’s attractive to everyone for different reasons,” Love told Houstonia when the joint opened early last year, explaining he hoped to see families, pet owners with their dogs, and late-night revelers use the space. “I built it to be my backyard.”
In addition to just getting some doggone cuddles in, visitors will receive a free appetizer and peanut-butter milk-bone during the event with any purchase from the pup or human menu.
And don’t forget to bring your own doggo along for the fun.
