J-Bar-M BBQ now offers live music performances.

Who knew the East Downtown’s hottest barbecue stop could turn up the heat even more? J-Bar-M Barbecue only opened in November, but in the hands of Texas pitmaster, Willow Villarreal, the lunch-only restaurant continues to sell out on a regular basis. But now, the smokehouse is ready to meet the demands of the public, with the recent announcement that it will now be open for dinner on Friday and Saturday nights, and to spice things up, live music will be played on Sunday afternoons.

This is big news for J-Bar-M and every BBQ loving Houstonian, as it doubles down on everything needed for a great cookout: good barbecue, people, and live music. While it opened quietly last month serving patrons from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, it certainly is making noise in the hospitality scene, namely with Villarreal’s brilliance on the pit. The acclaimed pitboss, and owner of the short-lived Willow’s Texas BBQ food truck, has gotten wide acclaim in Houston, and obtained a four-star review from food critic, Alison Cook.

Not to mention, what he’s cooking is darn good.

The dinner menu consists of classic Texas barbecue plates like tender pulled pork, juicy brisket, and smokey, well-seasoned pork ribs. Villarreal is now also making his own signature regular, jalapeno, and cheddar sausages in the pit room.

Chef de Cuisine Jasmine Barela joins him, preparing delectable Texas sides, like Cajun-style potato salad, house-made charro beans, and cauliflower au gratin.

If you have a sweet tooth, traditional desserts like banana pudding, peach cobbler, and chocolate ganache pie are sure to satisfy. The restaurant also serves signature cocktails from a full bar along with a sizable selection of beer and wine.

The restaurant venue features both indoor and outdoor dining, with a fully functional stage for upcoming performances from Houston natives like acoustic duo Nick Connors & Erich Joseph, Folk Family Revival, He Said She Said, and  Rich O’Toole. Alongside the outdoor patio and a gorgeous view of the Downtown skyline, it also includes seating for over 350 people and an additional space for private parties called the Back Lot.

J-Bar-M Barbecue is located at 2201 Leeland St. Visit the website for more information.
