When Houston’s beloved Greek restaurant, Yia Yia Mary’s Mediterranean Kitchen, from the Pappa’s Restaurant Group, closed its Uptown location on San Felipe in 2020 amid COVID shutdowns, everyone wondered what might come next.
While the restaurant rebranded as Yia Yia Pappas for a brief time, the financial impact of COVID led Pappa’s leadership to eventually close permanently soon thereafter. Since then, the flagship location at 4747 San Felipe has remained deserted. There’s been much speculation about what would become of the former Pappa’s locale over the last two years, and now we have an answer.
A few days ago, a video shared in an Instagram story finally revealed plans for the former Yia Yia Mary's space. Local hospitality group, Clé, responsible for concepts Kiss, Heart, Spire, Bisou, and its titular day and night club, is taking on a new venture at the location, called Post Oak Lodge.
According to the Instagram story, the restaurant is a bar and grill concept, but not much other information has been released. However, if the hospitality group’s sister restaurants serve as a guide, we can expect craft cocktails, appetizing small plates, and shareable large-format dishes.
What will soon be the Post Oak Lodge is a big score for Clé. The location sits on 6.1 acres, alongside the 1900 West Loop South office tower, and will likely drive plenty of foot traffic from the business people who work in the Galleria area.
No opening date for the Post Oak Lodge has been released. For more information, and updates, follow their Instagram.
