The Astrodome was not only the world’s first indoor domed arena, it was also the world’s first air-conditioned sports arena. Out-of-towners who’ve never suffered under our climate may not appreciate this fact, but anyone who has lived in Houston for more than one cycle of the seasons (by which we mean, of course, summer to summer and summer to fall) knows that A/C units are the true unsung heroes of the city.
Summer is now back in full force, and although there are plenty of water-based ways to cool off in Houston, as well as plenty of frozen treats to ease your humidity-induced malaise, sometimes what you really need to keep your chill in the city is to stay locked inside all day. If you, like us, can get a bit stir-crazy in your cooled and hermetically sealed abode, you’ll be happy to know that there are countless air-conditioned activities out there for Houstonians of all activity levels.
We’ve put together this matrix of coolness so you can make the best of Houston’s finest air-conditioned locales this summer, whether you’re in the mood for a low-key day at Space Center Houston or getting your sweat on at Neon Boots Dancehall & Saloon.
