Houston, Prepare to Get Your Butt Kicked: Barry's Has Arrived
If Barbie and Ken ever decide to sell their Malibu beach house and relocate to Houston, you better believe they’d get a gym membership at Barry’s Bootcamp, another California native and now Houston fitness scene heavyweight as of June 27. Thanks to the official grand opening of the latest location in the River Oaks Shopping Center (again, Barbie would approve), you can experience the OG cardio and strength interval workout Barry’s is famous for.
Barry’s Houston debut late last month was decadent—caviar, tequila, and beautiful people in cocktail attire all present and accounted for—and, complete with a live DJ, the new studio transformed into a club-like atmosphere to toast its arrival. There was even a red carpet, which positively popped beneath the all-white ensemble of Barry's CEO Joey Gonzalez. "The pillars of what Barry's is are very in line with what Houston is," he told us back in March.
Needless to say, Barry's knows how to party—it's a pioneering fitness concept, after all, so it's been in the game for a while. That said, the Barry’s signature high-intensity cardio and full-body workout precedes itself. Interested parties will find the Houston studio offers the same experience one would enjoy at any of the other 59 locations around the world.
That includes the famous “red room,” an area of the studio that isn’t all that dissimilar from what you'd expect from another red room enthusiast, one Christian Grey. By that we mean there will be pain—and potentially pleasure, if you’re one of those people who gets a rush of endorphins from getting your ass kicked by a combination of treadmills and good old-fashioned strength training.
But hey, at least you’re in a beautiful space surrounded by beautiful people while it happens, and there’s also Barry’s Fuel Bar to look forward to post workout. We were tempted to invest in the intro package if only to order a concoction called the “Green Latifah.” The selection of cute, branded workout gear is another draw. And if the grand opening attendees are any reflection of the folks you'll see in class any other day of the week, sign us up.
