Welcome to Perfect Party HQ, where we’ve been feeling a surge of female empowerment and, as such, have decided to make this month’s soiree women-only. We’re definitely inviting UH English professor Elizabeth Gregory, director of the university’s new Institute for Research on Women, Gender & Sexuality, which plans to probe the many ways gender and sexuality affect life in Houston and Harris County. Gregory no doubt will enjoy connecting with our other guests: Megan Thee Stallion, the Houston rapper/singer who exploded in popularity this summer, and who recently signed on to join the impressive roster of artists—including Kanye West and Mariah Carey—managed by Jay-Z’s Roc Nation agency; Elizabeth Gilbert, who set out to write “a sort of fizzy, joyful, sex-positive book” in City of Girls, succeeded wildly, and will read from her wonderful novel at Rice for Inprint on Nov. 11; Shaneisha Dodson, founder of local theater company Black Girlz Productions and curator of 14-monologue show Love Letters to the Black Man, who will present the work Nov. 16 at Midtown Art Center; Ana Amaya, who, per Houston Food Finder, recently was named executive chef at the Hotel Sorella’s Radio Milano, with her husband as her executive sous chef; and, finally, Gloria Steinem, the feminist activist herself, who’s visiting town to promote the awesomely named new collection of her wisdom, The Truth Will Set You Free, But First It Will Piss You Off!, at Congregation Emanu El on Nov. 7.
