SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS in Montgomery County will now have an additional resource for starting and growing their businesses. In a press release, the Sam Houston State University Small Business Development Center announced that it is expanding services to county residents.
The announcement comes shortly after the news that the Lone Star College Small Business Development Center will close at the end of July.
“It has been an honor serving the small business community in Huntsville and Conroe, Texas,” said Dean Mitchell Muehsam of SHSU College of Business. “Today, we are honored to announce the expansion of SHSU SBDC services to all of Montgomery County. What we’re most excited about is having more resources to maximize our coverage, building on the model we’ve developed since our doors opened.”
Small Business Development Centers are part of the U.S. Small Business Administration, which is a federal cabinet-level agency dedicated to small businesses and provides counseling, capital, and contracting expertise. SHSU SBDCs are funded in part by the U.S. SBA, and is a business advising and training center of the University of Houston Texas Gulf Coast SBDC Network serving 32 counties in Southeast Texas.
Lone Star College SBDC previously serviced South Montgomery, but that relationship will dissolve on July 31. In addition to Southern Montgomery County, SHSU SBDC is responsible for providing small business assistance to the counties of San Jacinto, Walker, North Montgomery, Trinity, Madison, Leon, and the City of Cleveland. They offer free one-on-one business counseling in all aspects of the business cycle, from the initial startup, execution day-to-day, and completion.

The new program is set to begin August 1. The SHSU SBDC is located at 1 Financial Plaza, Suite 300, Huntsville, TX 77340. Additionally, the Center has offices at The Woodlands Center, 3380 College Park Dr., The Woodlands.
