“The Nike NBA City Edition Uniforms were designed to honor those distinctly ‘H-Town’ achievements and styles — all with the heart of a champion,” says Aaron Cain,  a Nike executive.

The Houston Rockets are ready to play in their 2021-22 Nike NBA City Edition uniforms in celebration of the team's 75th season. The new outfit brings together the “Rocket’s greatest hits” for supporters of all ages, allowing long-time fans a trip through time, while simultaneously welcoming the new generation for the experience.

Closing in on a century of basketball, the Houston Rockets have gifted their home town with a plethora of unforgettable moments, solidifying lifetime fans along the way. Some may think back to Ralph Sampson’s miracle shot against the LA Lakers in ‘86 or the back-to-back championship in ‘94 and’95. For more recent fans, Carles Delfino’s iconic dunk on Kevin Durant in 2013 or James Harden being named 2018 MVP might be their top picks. However, it's in the late 1990s and early 2000s spirit that the team will don a classic look for the new season.

“Our new Nike NBA City Edition uniform is a great way to pay tribute to all of the amazing players and epic moments our fans have witnessed and been a part of throughout our 75 seasons as a franchise,” said Rockets Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer Julian Duncan. This year, Nike aimed for a vintage look that remixed notable moments throughout the history of the NBA, drawing from 1993-94 and 1994-95 road jerseys worn by the Rockets during its championship seasons. These featured the pinstripe look used from the mid-1990s through the early 2000s, worn by alumni Steve Francis and Yao Ming during their rookie seasons, with the angled “Houston” across the chest.

Rockets will don their remixed uniforms for 12 home games.

The shorts align with the pinstripe theme with a double-arched design and Rockets logo worn by the team during its 22-game win streak in 2007-08. “The Nike NBA City Edition Uniforms were designed to honor those distinctly ‘H-Town’ achievements and styles — all with the heart of a champion,” says Aaron Cain,  a Nike executive, referencing Coach Rudy Tomjanovich’s 1995 championship speech. Staying true to its city, the jerseys also feature a golden “2” emblem, pointing to their consecutive championships, a revamped version of the original Rockets’ logo, and an “H-Town” branding on the bottom left of the shirt.

The Rockets will wear their new uniforms for 12 home games this upcoming season. During each game, a distinct Rockets player from the franchise’s history will be celebrated in-arena. The first game, also the debut of the uniforms, will take place in Friday’s game against Portland, where Mario Elie will be the first player honored.
