Will Dusty Baker Stay With the Astros? We Now Have an Answer

As the offseason officially begins, the beloved manager is hoped to remain in Houston.

Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker waves during a victory parade for the World Series baseball champions Monday, Nov. 7, 2022, in Houston.

For over 40 years, Dusty Baker has dedicated his life to baseball both on the diamond and in the dugout. Previously winning a World Series Championship with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1981, Baker has now won his first ring as a manager of the Houston Astros, becoming the oldest manager to do so, at the age of 73. Now that the victory parade has come and gone, will he return to the Astros in 2023 in hopes of scoring back-to-back championship wins?

The answer is quite simple—yes! Baker won’t be going anywhere as he signed a contract extension with the Astros owner and chairman, Jim Crane, on November 9, keeping him with the team through the next baseball season.

Baker had previously confirmed to MLB’s Brian McTaggart on November 7 that he would like to return to the Astros in 2023, but the deal wasn’t done yet.

Fans, including this writer, are excited that Dusty will be heading into his fourth year with the organization. Under the leadership of the beloved Dusty, the ‘Stros have advanced to the American League Championship three times and made two World Series appearances.

Baker's confirmation is the first big move by the Astros’ front office as there are still players such as Justin Verlander, Michael Brantley, and Martin Maldonado with no word if they will re-sign or test out free agency.

There has only been one team in MLB history (New York Yankees 1998, '99, and 2000) to win three World Series championships back-to-back. As a now solidified dynasty with two WS wins in six years, there’s a strong indication that as long as Baker’s in the dugout at Minute Maid Park, equipped with his wristbands, they have what it takes to run it back.
