Things About the Houston Summers We Love and Hate

It’s time for our next edition of Yes Ma’am, No Ma’am, where we share what we love—or hate—about a subject. With summer upon us, we’re taking a look at Houston activities we’re excited for and others we could do without (looking at you, weather-related madness).
Yes Ma’am
Longer days. Hello, more sun; goodbye, seasonal depression.
No Ma’am
Hurricane season. We all have a little bit of PTSD from Hurricane Harvey.
Yes Ma’am
Galveston beach trips. Nothing compares to the feeling of sand between our toes and a sun-kissed tan.
No Ma’am
Patio bars. It’s too hot in Houston to enjoy them, and, mixed with alcohol, the experience makes us feel sick.

Yes Ma’am
The Marriott Marquis Texas-shaped lazy river. We can cool off and honor our state in one dip.
No Ma’am
Not enough public pools. We’d love more access to swimming spots, but lifeguard shortages have made this harder in the past.
Yes Ma’am
Astros games. If there’s good ballpark food and a roof involved, count us in.
No Ma’am
Triple-digit temperatures. Houston’s humidity amplifies the heat and leaves us gasping for air.
Yes Ma’am
A visit to the Museum District. We love exploring our city, but in air-conditioning, of course.
No Ma’am
A Houston Zoo trip. We love doing this—just not in the summer. Catch us there in the fall.

Yes Ma’am
Local ice cream shops. A sweet treat that cools us down is always a yes in our book.
No Ma’am
Swamp ass. No explanation needed.
