Runway to Real Life: Three Easy Fall Trends
The Spring 2014 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week recently wrapped, but with Houston heading to the most patio-friendly time of year, all that’s on our minds is fall. Sweet, sweet fall. While we can’t wait to wear the gorgeous large-scale floral prints, orange nails, and French-style resort wear shown in New York last week, right now is all about welcoming our favorite season with the cooler-than-cool leather looks, jewel-tone stunners, and distinctively demure trends unveiled at the Fall 2013 shows way back in February.
Make Houston your catwalk and add some of these wearable trends to your closet.
Daytime Nightwear

Rochas
Runway: Rochas rocked the full-on pajama look at their fall 2013 show, complete with a perfectly cut 1940s inspired coat.
Real Life: Grab a pair of silk pajama pants from the lingerie department of any local shop (make sure they’re opaque first!) or some satin trousers from Forever 21 and top with a slouchy T-shirt. Complete the look with some basic flats and a blazer to show that, no, you didn’t just roll out of bed. (Forever 21, Houston Pavilions)

Baroque satin pants from Forever 21
Perfect Plaid

3.1 Phillip Lim
Runway: Plaid is happening right now. The 1990s mainstay is definitely back if the 3.1 Phillip Lim show is to be believed.
Real Life: Try a dressed down version of this high-style trend. Wear this plaid flannel shirt in a gorgeous red from Madewell with pencil skirt and heeled sandals to make a work-worthy outfit out of this grunge classic. (Madewell, Houston Galleria)

Madewell
Easy Emerald

Cushine Et Ochs
Runway: A jewel tone that looks great on everyone? It's emerald green, which is apparently fashion week’s new best friend. This flattering shade was absolutely everywhere—from Cushine Et Ochs and Lanvin to Marc Jacobs and Miu Miu—and used in a variety of silhouettes from 1970s-inspired suits to sexy dresses.
Real Life: If showing up for dinner in a body-baring green dress isn’t your thing, try this alternative: accent your outfit with a standout pair of emerald-colored pumps or a chic handbag. (Shown below: Chicwish bag. Similar at Marshalls, West Gray)
