Leap Finds a New Home

The beloved Rice Village boutique is on the move.

You may have noticed an ominous "For Lease" sign outside Leap, prompting you to gasp at the thought of losing one of the city's most interesingly curated boutiques. Take a deep breath, says owner Susan Claffy. Leap is not closing, just moving.

Caffy set up shop at her current location—2314 Bissonnet St.—seven years ago. Her first foray into retail felt like a leap of faith, so, fittingly, she named the store "Leap." She plans to move the store to their new Upper Kirby location at 3637 West Alabama between Buffalo Speedway and Wesleyan St. in early January, though an exact date is not set.

"We just wanted a bit of a change of scenery," Claffy says of the new location in the "Hollywood Square" shopping center. "We're expecting to switch without much downtime and keep rolling."

Shoppers can expect another tasteful interior, with stained concrete, standing fixtures and a minimalist feel. This weekend, don't miss the Leap's "Garage Sale" from Dec. 6 to 8, which will include large discounts on items from seasons past–including some objects from the owners' own closets.

"Help us clear out our old stuff before our move," says Claffy.
