If we learned anything from the late '90s, it's that we should "wear sunscreen." Not sometimes, not just when we're by the pool or at the beach, but every single day.
And while I wholeheartedly embrace the idea of applying sunscreen daily, I still struggle with the practice. Why? Because sunscreen is icky. It smells and it's greasy and it will probably make your skin break out and I don't like it.
But because I'm an adult and I wear my big girl panties, I do try to apply every single morning. For the past couple of years, I've flip-flopped between Aveeno products and Olay products. Honestly, I like them both. I've gotten great sun protection from both, and they both get good marks on the icky scale (not very smelly or greasy). I wasn't even looking for a new sunscreen, and then Birchbox struck again, sending me a sample of the Supergoop! City Sunscreen Serum.
First, it's an SPF 30 sunscreen. To me, that means it's going to work for my daily sun exposure and do the trick at the beach as well.
Second, it's a zero on the icky scale. I don't notice a smell, it dries almost upon application, and it's weightless on the skin—no grease, no heavy feel, no nothing. It's like it's not even there.
Third, it's purported to protect against and repair the signs of aging, so that's sunscreen and skincare in one. I love a two-fer.
Admittedly, I don't have sensitive skin (probably another reason I love Birchbox and all the samples), but both my husband and 2-year-old son do, and none of us have had any breakouts or irritation. I also love that I can use it on everyone in my family.
To cut to the chase, I've found my new summer (and year-round) sunscreen. If you're in the market, Supergoop! City Sunscreen Serum won't disappoint.
Oh, and don't forget to apply it to your hands as well.
