Joan Pillow, a well-known veteran of the bridal gown industry for the past quarter century, has a bold pronouncement about the Bridal Gown Sample Sale taking shape this weekend in Highland Village.

“This is the largest bridal gown sample sale that has ever been done!” gushes Pillow, who owned a bridal salon in Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood before opening her Houston salon in 2009. “We hope that not only is the event a success, but that brides will go home with the wedding gown of their dreams.”

The largest bridal gown sample sale ever? We're not sure how to verify such a claim, but would you expect anything less from a flashy Houston retailer? Of course not. Here's what we do know: seven of the industry’s premiere bridal salons from Manhattan, Philadelphia, Miami, Chicago, Atlanta, and Houston have come together for a single weekend to sell their samples in Highland Village at 4050 Westheimer Road (the former Coldwater Creek Location). Doors open at 8 a.m., and Pillow says she's expecting a crowd.

What should you expect? With an eye for one-of-a-kind and couture gowns, Pillow and her industry friends have curated a selection of over 300 dresses from designers like Jenny Packham, Monique Lhuillier, Carolina Herrera, Vera Wang, and Oscar de la Renta. Also worth noting, says Pillow, is that every dress in the space is 60 to 75 percent off the original price. Wedding gowns will run from sample sizes 8 to 12, which in laymen’s terms means 4, 6, 8, and 10. Brides should also note that large entourages will not be welcome, as each bride is limited to two additional guests. Good luck, ladies!
