Smashin' Fashion

Houston stylists go head-to-head in new competition.

Houston’s top stylists put their skills to the test in the Smashin’ Fashion competition last night at The Art Institute of Houston. The competition began a month ago, when stylists were narrowed down from a field of 40 applicants. The top 10 were then paired with real-world models of all shapes and sizes who took a modeling crash course to prepare for the catwalk. After meeting their models, the stylists were challenged to dress them by themes that included red, folklore, rocker-chic, and nature.

The final looks were showcased in an intimate fashion show judged by Houstonia’s own Sarah Gabbart, Houston Press’s Cherise Luter, KTRK’s Sabrina Miskelly, and business coach Mattison Grey. As if they were runway veterans, the models confidently strutted down the catwalk showcasing a variety of trends amplified by their personalities. The night came to a climax when Thomasina Burns was crowned the Smashin’ Fashion winner and received a grand prize of $1000.

Smashin’ Fashion was the concept of image consultant Sarah Shah. Her goal was to create a fashion show for the everyday woman.

“I’m on a mission to show every woman she’s beautiful at every size,” Shah said. “The fashion show is getting a makeover and tonight is the big reveal.”
