Photo Ready: How to Look Haute for the Holidays
From office parties to white elephant exchanges, there seems to be an event of some sort every day as the year winds down. We know 'tis the season to eat, drink, and be merry, but let's not forget that it's also the season to look festive and fabulous.
Color

It seems I'm looking through red and green-colored lenses everywhere I go—red ornaments, green trees, red Santa suits, green elves, red velvet cupcakes, green icing, the list goes on.
Sartorially speaking, red and green together can get cheesy pretty quickly, so opt for a chic look with just a hint of holiday color. Dress up an outfit of neutral hues with a red cape—by far one of the season's hottest trends—or richly saturated maroon pashmina, for example, for a bold, yet sophisticated look.
The LBD

As a timeless piece, the LBD has become the universal go-to. No doubt one of the most favored pieces among women of all ages, the little black dress comes in handy more than ever during the holidays, if for no other reason than to help us look slim while indulging in holiday feasts. Look for an unexpected silhouette—like this business in the front, party in the back frock by Chloe Dao—and just add a bit of sparkle for the perfect New Year's Eve outfit.
Accessorize

Whether your outfit is ultrashort, flowy, or edgy, make it your own with accessories. Trade traditional pumps or peep toes for textured tights and pointed ankle boots. Liven up an all-black outfit with a colorful coat or bag. Be adventurous with jewelry—adding a statement necklace to a plunging neckline or an eye-catching ring will elevate your look from hot to holiday haute.
Ugly Sweaters

The party may call for ugly sweaters, but that doesn't mean you have to look ugly wearing them! I am definitely one to ham it up for a theme party—you'll find edible holiday jewelry and light-up headgear in my closet. The key to looking fab while donning a corny, Christmas look is to pair your ugly sweater with a beautiful bottom half, like leggings and boots or designer jeans with patent leather pumps. Add a Santa hat, reindeer antlers, or even a mistletoe headband to up the festive factor. Where there are ugly sweaters there are selfie sticks, so dress accordingly and remember to keep things fun and fashionable.
