A sampling at Heather Chapman's updo expertise.

As the hair genius behind the chair, Houston-based stylist Heather Chapman creates the kind of soft, romantic hair looks that are drooled over in magazines. She travels the country delivering sold-out instructional sessions on updos, braids and other intricate hair arts, but she says her greatest inspiration comes from seeing her brides reveal their look to their family members for the first time.

You are known the world over for your luscious signature updos! Tell us about the things that inspire you right now.

Thank you! Right now I'm inspired by all kinds of braids, pastel hair colors and jeweled hair combs.

What is the hair secret every woman should know about?

My subscription site, heatherchapmanhaironline.com. And Oribe dry texturizing spray.

What is the most frequent hairstyle you yourself wear for an everyday look?

I like to air dry my hair and wear my bangs in a top knot.

What tools do you recommend for the home hairstylist?

I love my SuperSolano blow dryer! It's powerful and the fastest at drying my hair. A bit heavy but hey, there's your arm workout for the day!

Where can we find the best hair accessories?

I'm obsessed with Jennifer Behr accessories. From bridal to Met Gala, during Fashion Week and on every It Girl, she's my absolute go-to.

What hair trends do you see in other places that you would love to migrate to Houston?

I'll always want it to be romantic braids.

You have been the hairstylist for so many brides—can you share a bridal experience with us that has made a big impression on you?

All of my brides have made a big impression, honestly. I always get choked up when the father of the bride or grandmother of the bride sees the bride in her gown, veil, hair and make-up for the first time right before the ceremony.

When you aren’t flying all over the country, what do you love to do in Houston on a lazy weekend day?

I love riding my bike, walking my Shih Tzu puppy and hanging out with my husband and son.
