Everything Old Is New Again: 5 Awesome Vintage and Antique Stores

Where to find everything from vintage Ferragamos to an antique armoire.

By Layne Lynch March 3, 2017

Whether you’re on the search for a big-wheeled bar cart, 1950s and '60s fit and flare dresses, vintage Bill Blass skirt suits, rustic steamer trunks or flirty bell bottoms, Houston's thrift stores and vintage shops are where it's at. Local vintage, antique and thrift stores are stocked wall-to-wall with dated treasures for consumers to peruse and choose.

Below, we’ve highlighted five stores where you’re likely to find your next glamorous outfit, antique armoire, vintage Ferragamos—you name it!

A&G Antiques

This massive Heights store is not only a good way to get your daily exercise in, it also houses some of the best antique treasures in the city. Colorful china, mid-century glassware, Art Deco beaded bags, early-edition novels, ornate fixtures, Tiffany lamps and just about everything else you can imagine are nestled throughout this 19th Street warehouse. The store is divided into individual antique dealer booths, which are all beautifully organized and arranged throughout the popular store. And don’t be afraid to negotiate on pricing either!

Goodwill at 2320 Westheimer Road

Because of its proximity to Upper Kirby and River Oaks, this sprawling Goodwill location often features designer labels like Tory Burch, Coach, Burberry and many more. And while you’ll inevitably have to sift through more than a few racks—the store is somewhat haphazardly laid out—you’re guaranteed to find treasured clothing from the 1970s, '80s and '90s. Also, be on the lookout for the Boutique section of the store (near the front), which showcases higher-priced designer pieces and vintage clothes, which are still a bargain at Goodwill's pricing.

Blind Girl Productions

Spring Branch boasts a number of thrift and vintage stores, but my favorite is Blind Girl Productions. And while this vintage store is a little small, it’s inevitable you’ll find at least one item to take home and treasure among all the goodies. Vinyl records, tartan plaid dresses, old coffee roasters, bright cake stands and numerous housewares and decorative features, this store is full of surprises.

Blue Bird Circle

Adjacent to Siphon Coffee in Montrose, this Houston resale shop has been a fixture in the thrifting scene since for decades. Consignment furniture is what the store is really known for, but shoppers can still find a little bit of everything in this thrift shop. Pressed flowers in old frames, embroidered handbags, copper mugs, Prada shoes, costume jewelry—you never know what you’ll find in this treasure trove of years past.

Cheeky Vintage

If you’re on the hunt for vintage pieces from designer and couture labels, you’ve found your new favorite store in Cheeky Vintage. This Richmond Avenue stop is bright and beautifully organized, but the catch is that you won’t find items at a bargain price like you would Blue Bird Circle Shop or Goodwill. You’ll track down stylish, must-have dresses, discussion-provoking accessories and envy-inspiring handbags and clutches from a list of notable and respected names, including Dior and Lanvin. Take a friend and find your next big splurge!
