Houston, I let you down. Way back around the Super Bowl I noticed Tootsies had opened a space labeled Tootsies Takes Off in an adjacent annex just across the plaza at West Ave. But I thought it was just the tail-end of the annual January Tootsies Takes Off sale. So I said nothing. This was a big mistake. Huge.

As it turns out, the Tootsies Takes Off space is a pop-up shop that's not popping down anytime soon. It's a place for customers to find Tootsies' coveted designer mix of apparel, shoes and accessories at discounted prices—it's own version of Nordstrom Rack or Neiman Marcus Last Call. Look for labels like Diane von Furstenberg, Trina Turk, Lafayette 148 NY, Joie, Alice + Olivia and Parker on the racks and new finds hitting the shelves every week. It's actually pretty exciting, both for your closet and your wallet.

If that's not enough reason to pop by Tootsies this month, there's also something special happening in-store every Friday for the rest of the month. Fresh Friday events include a spotlight on some of Tootsies' lines and how to wear them for spring, plus fun deals and freebies.

The Fresh Friday on March 24 will feature lines Velvet and DL1961 Denim as well as spins from West Ave neighbor Revolution Studio, sparkling water from Spindrift and popscicles from Houston newbie Popstontx. On March 31, the Fresh Friday theme is "fresh beats and sweets" with DJ Senega spinning and treats from Mostly Chocolate.

If that and sandal season aren't enough reason to shop, I don't know what is.
