We Are All Solange Deleting Her Twitter Account
"I'm weary of the ways of the world," Solange sings on "Weary," one of the opening tracks on her late 2016 album, A Seat at the Table.
Now, in the wake of recent events in Charlottesville, life has imitated art (or at least magnified it). Solange announced on Tuesday that she was deleting her Twitter account, holding off just long enough to circulate a final message: "When we gonna pull up? And what we got to do to get my new hero Takiyah Thompson free?"

Thompson is one of the activists who toppled a statue of a Confederate soldier in Durham, North Carolina, on Monday. On Wednesday she was arrested and charged with two misdemeanors and two felonies, and eventually released on $10,000 bond.
Though she doesn't get as much attention as her older sister, Solange has had a pretty great year, career-wise. Her late 2016 album, A Seat at The Table, continued to receive widespread critical acclaim for its nuanced and thoughtful exploration of the modern black experience. Her performances of the material have elevated it with the addition of interpretive choreography and inventive costuming—a concert-cum-performance art event at New York's Guggenheim Museum in May wowed the crowd, and might have made waves on the internet had it not been for the "no iPhones" rule imposed on the show.
After deleting Twitter, Solange shared her feelings in more detail on an Instagram story, including "been trying to practice self preservation during this time and not give racist ugly ass f--- bois who reek of citronella my energy so that I can preserve my spirit to perform this album," and "f---your stale ass bland ass monuments."
Which is all to say that if the news and the state of the world is getting you down lately, Solange feels your pain.
