Life in Champion Forest quietly became a little more coiffed last month with the opening of a new 18|8 Fine Men’s Salon at 5508 FM 1960 West. It’s the latest addition to the 18|8 family, which now numbers nearly 100 nationwide—and yet another sign of the booming barbershop resurgence sweeping the land.

Step into the new 1,600 square-foot space and it’s not difficult to understand the trend. 18|8 is roomy and masculine, full of rich earth tones and sleek, modern finishes—a haven of personal grooming and relaxation for the man on the move. As soon as a guest steps through the door, they’re offered an assortment of refreshments including beer, wine, and coffee. Once it’s time to get down to business, classic barbershop services like straight-razor shaves and handcrafted haircuts await. But that’s just the beginning.

The new location is owned by area veteran Mike Willis, who has four years in the Navy and over 30 in the oil industry to his name. Willis’ commitment to his Houston clientele runs deep: Aside from its range of traditional services, 18|8 also boasts facial and scalp treatments, waxing, nail treatments, and an innovative all-in-one hair loss solution offered in partnership with Bosley Hair Restoration. All of Willis’ stylists also undergo certified training to identify melanoma skin abnormalities on the scalp, neck, or head.

For Willis, going above and beyond is all part of the game plan. “Who wouldn’t want to be in business with a company that makes people feel good?” he said. “When clientele walk out of the salon they have a spring in their step, leaving with a higher sense of confidence.”

That’s a feeling worth spreading—Willis has plans to open a total of three 18|8 Fine Men’s Salons in the greater Houston area in the next three years. “I am thrilled to be providing the community with this second-to-none salon experience,” he said.
