Be Princess of the Pregame With These Texas Tailgate Looks

Who said there's no fashion in football?

By Anna Lassmann August 27, 2018

With the NCAA football kickoff just around the corner, it is time to prep for all the watch parties, tailgates, and games of the season. This year, why not take football fashion up a notch and ditch the baggy tees for cute sundresses and ruffled shorts? You can totally show your school spirit with these looks, though you might not be able to pass the pigskin during your pre-game festivities. (Settling for a game of cornhole is still a good time.)

Texas Longhorns

The Longhorns open their season on the road against Maryland, but that doesn’t mean you can’t look your best here for a watch party with all your friends—or save this look for the much-anticipated rematch against USC at home on September 15. We upgraded the classic burnt orange and white duo by adding bright pink into the mix by way of a striped wrap dress. Play off the surprise pink by pairing with floral studs and a cute wedge and you’re ready to roll. Go the extra yard by adding a sparkly Longhorn face tattoo, and hook 'em horns!

Texas A&M Aggies

With the biggest football stadium in Texas, the Aggies are sure the be loud and proud even on a Thursday night during their season opener against the Northwestern State Demons. Upgrade your maroon and white with scalloped-hem shorts and an eyelet ruffle top, plus a pair of beaded fan earrings for a touch of fun. Like a true Texan, pair this look with your favorite cowboy boots and tuck in the prized 12th man towel. With this outfit, you can saw the demon’s horns off.

University of Houston Cougars

Right here in H-Town, the Cougars are sure to surprise as they go into their second year with head coach Major Applewhite. The season starts on September 1 with a battle between another major Houston school: Rice University. Prepare for a showdown between the Owls and the Cougars by pairing a bright red off-the-shoulder crop top with a trending denim skirt. Complete the look with a white choker set and add UH-themed nail wraps for even more school spirit. Not only is this look cute and easy, but it will also help you bear the brutal Texas heat of September.

Baylor Bears

After a very disappointing 1-11 record in 2017, the Baylor Bears hope to regain momentum and rack up more wins for a season more akin to their 10-3 year in 2015. When the Bears open their season against Abilene Christian University on September 1, don the bright green and yellow of Baylor by pairing green shorts with a knotted white tee and colorful accessories.

Heading into his sixth full season with the Red Raiders, head coach Kliff Kingsbury has a lot to prove. But the Raiders are always full of surprises (and tortillas)—so who knows? They could pull it off. Texas Tech actually starts their 2018 season in Houston at NRG Stadium for a Big XII vs. SEC matchup against Ole Miss. If you’re in town for this exciting game, you can pair distressed black shorts with a vintage-inspired Texas Tech pocket tee, bright red Keds, and silver Texas-shaped studs, or save this look for the first home game against UH on September 15.
