Okay, this is not an actual BARC resident, but we're extremely confident that Friday's senior prom will involve similarly adorable good boys.

BARC's 3rd Annual Senior Prom

When: Friday, May 31; 6–8 p.m.
Where: BARC, 3300 Carr St.
What: Like all proms, there will be music, refreshments, dancing, official prom portraits (courtesy of Nature Dog Photography), and someone a little too old to be there: This is a party for BARC's resident senior shelter pets—like 12-year-old pooch Roxy—in search of forever homes for their golden years. Human revelers are invited to bring their own furry friends of a certain age, and all are encouraged (though not required) to dress up—there are costume contests for both species. And, if meeting (and snuggling) adoptable animals wasn't enough of a draw, it's also free.

Last Friday Night Market

When: Friday, May 31; 6–10 p.m.
Where: Navigation Esplanade, 2800 Navigation Blvd.
What: TGIF! Shop local goods after-dark in monthly market on the historic Navigation Esplanade. Hosted by East End Farmers Market, expect crafts, artisan vendors, food, and music as the sun goes down. Sorry that the Katy Perry song is definitely stuck in your head now.

Heartmade Art Market

When: Saturday, June 1
Where: Main Street Square
What: More than 70 Texas artists set up shop downtown at the intersection of Main and McKinney for this spring market, rescheduled after a washout forced postponement last month. Music, food trucks, and family-friendly activities are all on tap; free admission.

Shop, Swap, Drop: Magpies & Peacocks Store Opening

When: Saturday, June 1
Where: 908 Live Oak
What: Houston's nonprofit design house Magpies & Peacocks—which turns trash to treasure with its upcycled collections from scrap textiles, meant to promote sustainability in the fashion industry—is opening a retail store in its EaDo warehouse. Shop luxury goods from the brand and others, including sustainable partners like Kimono Zulu and Alice d'Italia, and donate your own closet rejects to the cause. Free; drinks and light bites included.

Montrose Morning Market

When: Sunday, June 2; 10 a.m.–3 p.m.
Where: 1915 Westheimer
What: Complete the Sunday morning liturgy of brunch and shopping all in one locale when this weekly morning market takes over the parking lot at The Phoenix, where you'll find wares from local artisans, farmers, and entrepreneurs plus live music.
