THE TO-DOUX LIST is lifestyle editor Abby Ledoux’s weekly roundup of pop-ups, markets, and whatever else she feels like doing around Houston each Friday–Sunday (generally). To submit an event for consideration, email details to [email protected]
When: Saturday, September 28; 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Where: Various locations
What: Seven of Houston's funkiest abodes are on display this weekend when the Weird Homes Tour returns here for the fourth year. Check out a house filled with hippos, another designed for Instagram, and a literal secret garden, among others. Notable art collector Lester Marks also opens his home—and insane private collection—to this year's tour-goers. Tickets are $45 and benefit New Hope Housing.
When: Saturday, September 28; 10:30 a.m. and noon
Where: Armadillo Palace, 5015 Kirby Dr.
What: Naaaaamaste! Stretch it out in this guided flow (suitable for all levels, including beginners) while 20 adorable, cuddly goats prance around your practice, and maybe even onto your back, in the massive backyard at this beloved local eatery—stay for lunch after and try the new cocktails list. BYO mat, towel, and water; Goat Yoga Houston provides the instruction and the furry friends.Tickets are $35 and classes are limited to 30 participants. The hype is real, and it's well-deserved.
When: Saturday, September 28; 10:30 a.m. doors, noon show
Where: House of Blues, 1204 Caroline St.
What: If you missed the Beyoncé edition two weeks ago, now's your chance at redemption. Drag queens make Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda even more fabulous than they already are, and $40 gets you access to a show (can't you hear that iconic theme already?), a meal, and a mimosa. I couldn't help but wonder...what size Manolo does Carrie Dragshaw wear?
When: Saturday, September 28; 3–7 p.m.
Where: The Whimsy Artisan, 1802 Yale St., Suite E
What: The Heights Common Market boutique—which stocks goods from more than 100 local artisans—hosts the first solo art exhibition from CultGrrrl Creations featuring one-of-a-kind crocheted oddities by artist Jess Carlos. Think quirky, cute, and sometimes creepy fiber curiosities like amigurumi (crochet dolls) and whimsical art pieces in colorful yarns. The Whimsy Artisan and event sponsor Bash Brewing Company will provide refreshments.
Official Astros Watch Party
When: Sunday, September 29; 2 p.m.
Where: Karbach Brewing Co., 2032 Karbach St.
What: Root, root, root for the home team in their final game of the season at the official Houston watch party, which just so happens to be free. We're assured there will be plenty of Crawford Bock, plus multiple screens to watch the game, a pop-up shop for 'Stros merch, appearances by Orbit (!) and the Astros Shooting Stars, ongoing Karbachtoberfest festivities, and—tantalizingly—an "exclusive announcement" revealing the Astros post-season campaign. It's time to take it back.
