IAH is usually on time.

An annual report by travel analyst OAG lists George Bush Intercontinental Airport as the sixth-best major airport in the world and fourth major airport in the U.S. at being on-time. Yes, the ever-punctual IAH, which hosts around 20 to 30 million passengers a year as a "major airport," had on-time arrivals and departures 82.43 percent of the time in 2017.

In terms of dependability, IAH beats out fellow Texas airports also ranked on OAG's Punctuality League report. Medium-sized airports San Antonio and Austin-Bergstromare, which have around 5 to 10 million departing passengers a year, are on time 81.99 percent and 81.57 percent of the time, respectively. And Dallas-Fort Worth, which sees more than 30 million departing passengers a year, is on time 81.36 percent of the time.

Houston Aviation Director Mario C. Diaz said in a press release, "This rating is a great recognition, but it’s not the end of our work — it’s just the beginning.”

The ratings of the OAG Punctuality League are based on 57 million flight records from 2017. OAG’s definition of on-time performance is based on flights that arrive or depart within 14 minutes and 59 seconds (under 15 minutes) of their scheduled arrival/departure times.
