Montrose is on track to get a brand new city park at Westheimer and Whitney (in what's now a vacant lot across from Tejas Boots and Sorrento's) in 2020, yet another reason that year can't arrive quick enough.

Avondale Promenade Park will undoubtedly be a great addition to the neighborhood, with a Craftsmen pavilion, brick promenade, play area, Crepe Myrtle grove, lots of lawn space, and even a dog run on site, all designed by White Oak Studio landscape architects. It will also be the new home of the Montrose Remembrance Garden, which honors the victims of hate crimes—and rightly so. The park's location is near the former longtime route of Houston's Pride parade in a historically LGBTQ neighborhood.

According to Houston Business Journal, the city acquired the quarter-acre lot in May 2015 for a cool $1.18 million, and after getting another cool million from TPWD, will start construction in August 2019. The contractor has yet to be announced.
