Have at it, kiddos.

There's No Denying that Houston loves its parksand trails, and Bayou Greenways, and general natural splendor. And with that, our city's favorite downtown green space is undergoing some major changes within the next year for the betterment of every Houstonian and our city's visitors, too.

Yes, Discovery Green just announced a $12 million renovation—$10 million coming from philanthropic donors; $2 million yet to be raised, according to the Chronwhich will include an investment in lighting, trees, the women's restroom facilities, family-friendly art installations, and perhaps the most noticeable upgrade, a new playground that will land in the northwest corner of the park in about seven month's time. Meanwhile, the playground that had been occupying that corner is currently being relocated to the adjacent Sarofim Picnic Lawn, meaning kids will have even more opportunity to go nuts here when both playgrounds are up and running.

The new 20-piece playground will feature play areas for both little kids and big kids, seating, hedges, and even its own hill, all designed by Hargreaves Associates, who designed the original playground as well. And as for that family-friendly public art, look for Yuri Suzuki’s interactive "Sonic Playground,” going up for six months beginning in March, and don't forget to wear your swimsuits to hit up the park's Gateway Fountain.
