Wake up to this beach view at Doubletree Galveston.

Ah, yes. Valentine’s Day. A time to take your dearly beloved on a weekend getaway (because, ahem, it falls on a weekend this year) or risk losing them to a weighted blanket, Whitman Sampler, and all the streaming services' best romance flicks.

If staycations and vacations are in the cards (oh, gees, we need cards, too), these Valentine's destinations are well within driving distance, plenty romantic, and for the most part offering great deals for the weekend. Here're some ideas.

Try all the wines at Texas Hill Country Wineries.

From February 1 to 26, 45 wineries will pour it on for The Wine Lovers Celebration—a self-guided tasting tour that allows you to taste at up to four wineries per day and get discounts on bottle purchases. You just need to get your digital Event Passport, from $100 per couple or $65 per person, online here

Stay in a historic inn in Georgetown.

With outdoor activities at San Gabriel Park, Lake Georgetown, and Blue Hole; great shopping along the "Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas”; and plenty of options for dinner, dessert, and wine downtown, there’s a lot for lovebirds to do over Valentine’s weekend in this just-north-of-Austin town. Stay at Sweet Lemon Inn, originally built in 1918 and overlooking downtown, or San Gabriel House, a 1914 mansion with a cozy library.

Behold the new Trellis Spa at The Houstonian.

The Galleria stunner offers a Valentine's to Remember package, February 12–14, with special rates, Prosecco, and chocolates upon arrival; complimentary parking;  late check out; and options to add on fresh flowers and then some (book with promo code VDAY). But it's the newly renovated Trellis Spa you'll definitely want to check out—it reopens on February 2. You might also want to reserve a spot for the hotel's Mardi Gras Masquerade Party (only 50 guests allowed), $159 per person; or for Valentine’s DiningFebruary 11–14,  at TRIBUTE.

Steak f.t.w. at Guard and Grace.

Staycation (with an epic dinner) at The Sam Houston.

Enjoy a one-night stay at the historic downtown hotel and dinner at one of Houston's top-notch restaurants with the “Love at The Sam” package, on offer February 12–14. The package gets you a $150 gift card for Guard and Grace (in One Allen Center) with complimentary shuttle service to the restaurant, an upgrade to a deluxe guest room, a welcome bottle of champagne, and late check-out (2 p.m.). From $259, book here.

Take in the sunrise or sunset at Doubletree Galveston.

Wake up to gulf views from your own beachfront room's balcony, or stroll over to Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier (just 10 minutes away). When you book five days in advance, you'll get 15-percent off (no prepayment required) for stays February 12–14. From $172.

Go horseback riding at JL Bar Ranch, Resort & Spa.

Relax with a Lonestar Lover’s Weekend Getaway at this boutique ranch and resort on 13,000 acres in Texas Hill Country, available February 10 to 14. Enjoy a complimentary bottle of Prosecco and chocolate-covered strawberries upon arrival (with options to add fresh flowers and more) and Valentine treats in-room daily. There's also a romantic, four-course meal with seatings at 5 and 7:30 p.m. $150 per couple (alcohol not included).
