The FPSF successor appears to be going in a different direction.

In Bloom Festival will take place March 24-25, 2018, in Eleanor Tinsley Park, the same location as the now defunct FPSF.

When it was announced FPSF was no more, we welcomed its springtime successor, In Bloom Festival, with open arms. Few mourned the festival with a penchant for getting rained out. But today, In Bloom announced its inaugural lineup, and, while we're still excited, the new festival is decidedly not the one-for-one FPSF replacement some hoped for.

Notably missing are any headlining rappers or pop artists, which seems like an oversight in 2017, the year hip-hop/R&B dethroned rock as the most consumed music genre. As a fellow Houstonia employee noted via Slack, "it kinda feels like this lineup was created 8 years ago." Three of the headliners—Beck, Incubus, and Queens of the Stone Age—are accomplished rock bands who continue to put out great music, but they are nonetheless bands with roots solidly planted in the 1990s. And in a time of 1,001 festivals, appearances by folks like T-Pain, Grizzly Bear, and Explosions in the Sky feel like boilerplate additions.

That's not to say we're totally down on In Bloom! Houston's own Ugly God, along with the outstanding DRAM and Lil Uzi Vert, bring some serious rappers further down the lineup. Twin Shadow, Sylvan Esso, and local favorite Vodi have us contemplating a ticket, too. It's overall a decent list, but one lacking a single artist that makes us daydream about how our lives could be forever altered by dropping $100+ on concert tickets, which doesn't seem like too much to ask for. Then again, maybe we're just salty we never got our hug from Lorde.

See the full lineup below.
