Barack Obama Listens to Travis Scott

The former president's 2017 playlist includes not one, but two Houston artists.

We miss Barack Obama for a number of reasons, including his fire playlists.

The Obamas’ love affair with the Knowles–oops, sorry, we mean the Carters–is well documented. Barack and Jay and Michelle and Beyoncé are, after all, friendship goals.

It should come as little surprise, then, that a Jay and Bey collab made 44’s list of favorite songs in 2017. Obama began the tradition of sharing now legendary personal playlists (and reading lists) during his presidency, and though someone…else now occupies the Oval Office, the former commander-in-chief correctly surmised we could all really use another round of his annual recommendations this year.

Which brings us to said list, which Obama dropped via Facebook last week. It's straight *emoji fire,* dominated by hip-hop and, most importantly, features not one but two Houston exports: Beyoncé, yes, but also Travis Scott.

The list enlightened us to the fact that President Barack Obama, like the rest of us, jammed out to "Butterfly Effect" by Missouri City’s own Scott over the last year. The single, released last May, spent 21 weeks on Billboard’s Hot 100 charts and is expected to appear on Scott’s much-hyped sophomore release, AstroWorld.

If Obama raps along to "Butterfly Effect" like we imagine he does, that means at least one president has referenced the Green Lantern–in the track's second verse, Scott namedrops the San Antonio bar he was known to frequent during his short-lived UTSA days.

More predictably, Obama also enjoyed “Family Feud” featuring Beyoncé off Jay-Z’s 4:44 this year. Still, it begs the question, where does the former POTUS stand in the cheating saga?

We give Barry major props for citing SZA, Frank Ocean, and Chance the Rapper among his other favorite 2017 standouts, and we’ll leave you with the unparalleled image of a dapper, most erudite former leader of the free world singing the relentlessly-stuck-in-your-head chorus of Camila Cabello’s “Havana” to prove: Presidents–they’re just like us!
