The Houston Rap Community Mourns Chucky Trill
The Bayou City music community is grieving after news broke that Houston rapper Chucky Trill was killed early Friday morning in Atlanta.
According to a report from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the 33-year-old musician, whose legal name is Corey Detiege, was found fatally shot in a car on I-85 and later died in a Georgia hospital. His death is the fourth fatal shooting on an Atlanta interstate this year, according to AJC. He had been in the city for the NBA All-Star weekend, per a Houston Chronicle report.
Last summer Detiege dropped music videos for “Basic” and “Buss It,” from his 2018 album, Music for the Soul. Most recently, he appeared on The Donnie Houston Podcast this past Monday, where he talked about his rap career and his father, fellow Houston rapper D of Trinity Garden Cartel, among other topics.
Since the news broke Friday morning, members of the Houston music community have been expressing their grief on social media:
Just heard that Chucky Trill was killed. He was just on my show Monday. RIP🙏🏽

Rest In Peace Chucky Trill #CartelBaby • I watched Chucky get out of jail and go hard! He was everywhere grinding, always smiling & making his name know step by step. I done sat on the phone with his dad about helping him out! Life is short... you never know! 🤦🏾♂️🙏🏾
