The Eatsie Boys's "Frozen Awesome" ice cream comes in 20 bold, bizarre flavors. When you buy it at the Montrose cafe, the ice cream is served in one standard size—a badminton birdie-shaped cup with a wide rim. Though I piled two different flavors into one cup, the price stayed the same: $4.50.
I tried the “Shipley’s Glazed and Confused Donut” and “In a World Gone Mad Whisky and Cereal,” with whisky on top and Shipley’s at the bottom. The ice cream was stacked sky high, looming over the cup.
The first bite was all whisky, then we hit the Golden Graham cereal bits inside the fluffy glacier of milky ice cream. I loved the flavor.
The Shipley’s flavor tastes just like a Shipley’s glazed donut—that's because actual glazed donuts are ground into fine bits for a uniformly creamy ice cream with no chunks. Yum.
All of Eatsie Boys's flavors are available by the pint for $8. The frozen awesome menu also offers seven sorbets and “Other Sweet Nothings” which includes cakes in jars and ice cream sammies. The sorbet names are eccentric as well—try the “Shake Your Coconuts” or “It Takes Two to Mango.”
Eatsie Boys has shaded outside sitting ideal for a frozen treat on a sunny day, and the menu also features a variety of sandwiches and salads, plus breakfast all day. They’re open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays.
