Happy Hour of the Week: Johnny's Gold Brick

Yet another Treadsack concept gets it right, pairing discounted cocktails with the Pi Pizza truck at this neighborhood gem.

As the popular Treadsack restaurant group seems to hit it out of the ballpark with each new restaurant concept, it probably won't be long until diners start hashtagging #TreadsackTuesday or #ForeignCorrespondentsFriday. In fact, some already have. From longtime Heights favorite Down House to next-door newbies Bernadine's and Hunky Dory, Houstonians can't seem to shut up about Treadsack. And then there's Johnny's Gold Brick. It's isolated from the others but is still a neighborhood gem in its own right. The bar boasts an eclectic space, Pi Pizza Truck access and a happy hour that will kickstart any evening.

Happy hour, or "golden hour" as the bar playfully refers to it, is every weekday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with drink specials in effect all day Monday. At those times, the main menu of signature cocktails is discounted to $6. The Old Fashioned and Tom Collins are bold choices, while the frozen margarita and sweet daiquiri are icy and refreshing on those all-too-familiar hot winter nights. Draught beers are $1 off, but to truly get the party started, opt for a Boilermaker which is $2 off during "golden hour" and comes with a shot of whiskey and a bottle of Lone Star Beer.

The bar's collaboration with Pi Pizza truck is perhaps the icing on the Treadsack layer cake. The mobile oven is a permanent fixture at Johnny's Gold Brick, parked right at the bar's main entrance where guests are encouraged to enjoy a slice with their drinks on the patio or in the bar. Where you have pizza and discounted beer, you have happy hour gold.
