We avoid it like the plague. But, week after week, Monday creeps up on us without fail. By all accounts, it is the least popular day of the week for obvious reasons. But if you're an oyster, there is less obvious cause to fear Monday.

At downtown's Prohibition Supperclub & Bar Monday is better known as the day that the Oyster Apocalypse takes over happy hour. While it may sound like a schlocky Syfy network flick made as a complement to Sharknado, Oyster Apocalypse is a much more exciting way to spend Monday evening than binge-watching cable.

Beginning at 4 p.m., you'll find a slew of oyster-loving Houstonians strolling in for happy hour at Prohibition. On Monday only, the pain of beginning the work week is mitigated with already discounted happy hour specials joined by 50-cent raw Gulf oysters and char-grilled garlic-butter-and-Parmesan ones. Not a bad way to spend a buck—or ten.

The raw oysters are served with traditional accompaniments, while the chargrilled variety comes plated with crusty garlic bread. Other guilty pleasures on the happy hour menu include $5 house red and white wines, $3 sparkling wine and a variety of discounted signature cocktails from the bar.

Though, happy hour at Prohibition takes place each weekday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., expect the 50-cent price tag on Mondays only. Once the apocalypse is over, happy hour oysters retail for $1 apiece. 

Sure, waiting until Wednesday to indulge in happy hour shenanigans may seem appropriate, but we think getting through a manic Monday deserves the same attention. And, if there is indeed an apocalypse we want to be part of, this is it.
