Underdog’s Pub
Happy hour: varies by day, with specials seven days a week
We don’t know which we love more: the constantly rotating selection of top-notch craft beers on draft, or the constantly rotating line-up of adorable dogs wandering the back patio of this Washington Avenue watering hole. Wednesday Whiskey Night brings $3 pours of Irish, American and Scotch whiskies, while Draft Party Thursday means all draft beers are $4 each from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Kirby Ice House
Happy hour: varies by day, with specials seven days a week
Sure, there's plenty of seating inside the '60s-themed, 6,500-square-foot ice house itself, but it's the one-acre backyard that's the big attraction for pet-owners. Food trucks park out here as well, offering sustenance to power you through a few solid rounds of corn hole or horseshoes. You'll need to bring a leash for your dogs, but Kirby Ice House will provide the water bowls.
Henderson Heights
Happy hour: 3–7 p.m. Mon–Fri
The first bar in town to sell Bowser Beer for Dogs (yes, that’s a real thing) also regularly hosts pet-adoption and fundraising events on its inviting patio, tucked away from the Washington Avenue traffic. We’re partial to the Thursday happy-hour specials, which feature $5 premium whiskeys and half-price pizzas.
Irish Cowboy
Happy hour: 3–8 p.m. Mon–Fri
On Wednesdays, snap a photo of your pup on the patio at this Midtown bar, which regularly hosts dog-rescue events. Post and tag it on Instagram, and pick up a $3 beer of your choice at the bar. Other weekdays, Ziegenbock and Bud Light are always $3, while red and white sangrias run $4 each.
West Alabama Ice House
Happy hour: 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Mon–Fri
The progenitor of Houston ice houses has welcomed dogs for as long as we can remember—and if they’re particularly well-behaved, feel free to let ’em off the leash. This Montrose mainstay isn’t the place for fancy craft beer consumers, but if you like $2.50 domestics and salt-of-the-earth drinking buddies, you’ll be right at home.
