There is no doubt that the number of food events taking place around the greater Houston area is ramping up, and we’re just a few weeks away from one that should be on the calendar for area wine lovers: Wine & Food Week 2018. This year marks the 14th year of the event, which takes place at multiple locations in The Woodlands from June 4-10. No matter how long you’ve been engaged with the world of wine, the people behind Wine & Food Week want you to come out.
“The biggest message we try and communicate with Wine & Food Week is that we have an event for everyone. We have beginner events for people are just getting their wine legs, and we have more advanced events for connoisseurs who are looking to grow their cellars and collections,” says Rachel Lewis, a Wine & Food Week representative. “Whether you know nothing about wine or you’re deep in the wine world there is an event that is a good match for you.”
This year’s Wine & Food Week events include:
Tuesday, June 5 — It’s A Guy Thing
For all the dudes out there who love a good wine or want to partake in some craft beer, this event features not only the drinks but live music, cigars, and poker as well.
Thursday, June 7 — H-E-B Wine Walk at Market Street
Go on a wine walkabout as Market Street transforms into a 34-acre wine and food open-air party. Try some wines, learn more about them, and try bites from over 20 restaurants.
Friday, June 8 — Sips, Suds & Tacos
Do I really have to sell you on something called the Taco Takedown? Choose your favorite taco, drink some wine, and find out who takes home the Taco Takedown Trophy.
Saturday, June 9 — The Wine Rendezvous Grand Tasting & Chef Showcase
Over 60 chefs. Over 500 wines. Get fancy and enjoy the best of what Wine & Food Week has to offer during their headline event.
As you might imagine, the event organizers are pretty proud of their wine list.
“We have over 500 wines over the course of the week. We’ll have more Texas wines than any previous year,” Lewis says. “Wine and Food Week is so diverse and so global, but we also pay local homage.”
This year Wine & Food Week benefits New Danville, an integrated community where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities can live, learn, work and grow with their peers; The John Cooper School’s Signature Author Series, which assists with literacy efforts in Montgomery County; The Woodlands Arts Council; and The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival.
