Beware of falling glitter. That’s the best advice I can give you if you’re hanging out downtown a few hours before the Houston Pride parade kicks off on Saturday. Oh, sure, there’s the usual things you need to do if you’re spending time outside on a June Houston Saturday—stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and so on—but also be aware of glitter falling out of the sky. Maybe I’m biased because I hate glitter the way Anakin Skywalker hates sand; maybe being covered in glitter will add to your aesthetic. You do you. If you’re looking for places to visit before the parade, check out these Pride specials:
On Saturday and Sunday, starting at 11 a.m., Boheme will be hosting a drag brunch. The show starts at 12 p.m., so get there early or reserve a table. Menu highlights include fancy French Toast, Botanical Kettle One Cocktails, and refreshing mimosas.
Cottonmouth Club has a special Pride menu, and everything on it runs $6. The menu includes options such as the Cabana Boy, with Espolon tequila, Illegal mezcal, averna, lime juice, tapatio, thyme, lime wheel and a high five; Taste the Rainbow, with Santa Teresa rum, Kalani coconut, Midori, Giffard banana liqueur, lime juice, pineapple juice, hay straw and pineapple pooch; and the Neil Patrick Harris, with Woodford Reserve bourbon, Jack Daniels Rye, Gran Marier, sweet vermouth, agosturra bitters, in addition to a few other options.
El Big Bad is looking to help you pre-game on Saturday with an afternoon of fun that includes food and drink specials, a unicorn costume contest, a Pride pageant, and more. To go along with the costume contest they’ve got a “The Unicorn” margarita, made with fresh juice, 100 percent Blue Weber tequila and features an upside-down champagne mini bottle.
They’ve got all day happy hour specials on Saturday.
Saturday is the last day to get K&Z’s rainbow cookies, of which they’re donating 10 percent of every sale to the Montrose Center’s Hatch Youth program. The cookies are layered with marzipan, raspberries and rich chocolate ganache, and are closer to mini-cakes than cookies.
It’s a busy day over at Rodeo Goat. They’re opening up at 10 a.m. for the World Cup, then hosting happy hour from 4—7 p.m. They’ll have $3 moontang all day, a $10 burger and drink combo, and $7 Unicorn BJ Cocktails featuring BJ Hooker's Vodka on the menu.
