Update: Voodoo Doughnuts will open at 3715 Washington Ave., the building that housed the now-shuttered Sammy's Wild Game Grill and Waugh Cleaners.
Portland, Oregon-based Voodoo Doughnuts is coming to Houston. Per a press release and first reported by Eater, the famous donut shop that also has locations in Austin; Denver; Eugene, Oregon; Orlando; and Universal City, California, will arrive on Washington Avenue in Space City in the late summer.
“We are ecstatic to continue our expansion in Texas, adding to our existing location in Austin,” said Voodoo Doughnut co-founder Kenneth “Cat Daddy” Pogson. “We look forward to contributing to the Houston community and eager to find amazing people that thrive in a fun, high energy environment to join the team. Get ready to see our iconic pink boxes in the coming year!”
Meanwhile, a new Mexican-American bar is set to open in Lindale Park. Monkey's Tail, from partners Sharif Al-Amin, Greg Perez, and Jessie Gonzales, is set to open at the former Ike's Place spot (5802 Fulton St.) this spring. Expect original cocktails like 3 Milks (rum, tres leches, pineapple, strawberry, cherry, nutmeg) and Sabre Con Madre (vodka, chamomile, sage, St. Germaine, lemon, lychee) and an array of street food (Mexican corn, New York-style pizza, wing baskets with dry rubs).
The 3,000-square-foot space will include lounge seating and a dog-friendly patio.
Also, Bernie's Burger Bus's newest location is now open. The fourth Bernie's is at 6324 Hwy. 6 in Missouri City. Also, it has a drive-thru. In homage to the original food truck, guests at the location must order into the window of a yellow school bus.
Also look for the single yellow table on the patio—that's called the Cool Kids Table, and a customer there could randomly win a BBB Black Card, which entitles her or him one burger, fries, and non-alcoholic drink once a day for life. Full bar, plus specials and Lobster Friday are also happening in Missouri City. The restaurant seats 50 inside and 35 on the patio.
