A new Washington Avenue bar wants to pour you a highball.

what does the name 'The Pink Elephant Room' mean? Now open at 4218 Washington Ave. and hosting its grand opening on April 20, the Pink Elephant Room refers to what sort of animal you may see in a drunken hallucination (The Simpsons did it), plus it makes for a cheeky logo. And it's a cheeky bar: What previously housed Sidebar and Little J’s has been taken over by Robert Sussman and Samuel English, owner of Love Buzz, and it's a lot of fun.

The Pink Elephant Room greets you with a billiard table and a massive mural of said pink elephant. Ahead is a massive 40-foot, L-shaped bar, lined with golden bar stools with maroon booths opposite, so there’s plenty of seating. But for the patrons that want to get some rays, there’s a wraparound patio with plenty of wooden picnic tables out back.

The Pink Elephant Room has a vending machine for candy, cigarettes, Swisher Sweets and, coming soon, novelty gags. The two televisions situated above the bar will show all the sporting events, plus shows like Rick and Morty and The Joy of Painting. An old school jukebox plays curated hits from acts like UGK, The Flaming Lips, Al Green and Willie Nelson. A projector screen will be in use for movie nights.

Signature drinks include Dumbo Trip with Amarula cream liquor, white rum, strawberry, and soda, and topped with candied popcorn, which comes off as a boozy, fizzy milkshake. The Elephant Repellent is a mix of mezcal, ancho reyes, grapefruit pepper tincture, grapefruit juice, and soda, and garnished with a grapefruit slice covered in tajin—a refreshing and slightly spicy cocktail.

The bar also focuses on highballs: Choose the spirit and it'll be paired up with a delicious bottle of suds to help bring out the flavor. By far my favorite was the Old Grand-Dad with Mexican Coke.

Whether sipping on a highball or jamming out over some Willie, The Pink Elephant Room is the kind of low-key hang every drinker could fall in love with.
