Indigo Continues to Rack Up The Honors

Jonny Rhodes' ambitious restaurant is named one of Food & Wine's best new places.

Jonny Rhodes' Indigo utilizes ingredients grown in its backyard, plus preservation techniques, curing, and smoking.

Not even open a year, Indigo continues to pile up the praise.

Jonny Rhodes' acclaimed restaurant highlighting food from the African diaspora and chronicling the survival of African, black, and indigenous people has been named one of Food & Wine's best new restaurants for 2019. It was ranked eighth on the famed magazine's national list, which also includes Cadence in Philadelphia, Suerte in Austin, and Frenchette in New York City.

On Indigo, Food & Wine writes

Rhodes, who put in time at Gramercy Tavern in New York and Oxheart in Houston, is a gifted cook. And so while all of this may be delicious, none of it is comfortable—it isn’t intended to be. Sometimes the things we need the most are the hardest to swallow.

It's the latest in a string of plaudits for Rhodes' tasting menu, which was first served back in July. GQ named it (along with Georgia James) one of America's best new restaurants, while Rhodes was named a semifinalist for a 2019 James Beard Rising Star Chef of the Year award.
