The first Flower Child inside the loop will open at 1533 N. Shepherd Dr. at Market at Houston Heights in the Heights on March 24, per an announcement made Tuesday. It marks the third location of the health-forward concept in the Houston area, with the others in Uptown and The Woodlands.
Its opening at Market at Houston Heights—a 30,000-square-foot development designed by Michael Hsu Office of Architecture—comes at a busy time for the western end of the Heights. The Burger Joint just unveiled its 2002 N. Shepherd Dr. location, which is in its soft-opening phase, and Mico's Hot Chicken will slide into the old Balls Out Burger space on Shepherd. These concepts join relative newcomers The Waffle Bus and tiki bar Tikila's.
Flower Child helps to balance out all that gluttony. It offers vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dishes, and popular items include the Glow Bowl (spicy sweet potato noodles, bok choy, zucchini, onion, jalapeño, shiitake mushroom, coconut milk, sunflower butter) and a turkey and avocado cobb salad with smoked almond, corn, and gorgonzola vinaigrette.
The restaurant is part of the Fox Restaurant Concepts family that also oversees Blanco Tacos + Tequila (with a location at the Galleria), all-day restaurant The Henry, informal craft American restaurant Culinary Dropout, and pizza spot Dough Bird, among others.
