Oh boy, here comes the chicken.

Aggies know about Layne's. Now Houston is about to find out.

Layne's Chicken Fingers, an institution in College Station since 1994, will open its first H-Town-area location at 23703 Cinco Ranch Blvd in Katy. Yes, it's in Katy, but a lot of chains drop into Katy first.

Regardless, Layne's features chicken fingers; a classic chicken sandwich, with a (likely Worcestershire-based) secret sauce on Texas toast; a club sandwich that includes chicken fingers, bacon, and cheddar cheese on Texas toast; and grilled cheese on Texas toast. Other offerings include fries and potato salad.

“Layne’s in Houston is going to make a huge splash,” said Matt O'Reilly of Layne’s Chicken Fingers in a press release. “When we opened in Dallas, people drove two hours to visit. I can’t imagine what Houston will do.”

Masroor Fatany, the CEO of AYG Food Services (The Halal Guys) is opening the franchise in Katy. Look for it starting this summer, and once that opens, Fatany expects other Houston-area locations should soon follow. Layne's joins a field of breaded and fried chicken purveyors that includes, at the chain level, Chick fil-A, Popeye's, and Raising Cane's, not to mention the many local hot chicken and fried chicken spots that have popped up over the few years.
