The owners of Third Ward’s Emancipation Avenue dive bar, The Spot Lounge and Bar, have big plans coming to fruition and they’re lifting as they climb. Co-owners Adfanie Smith Gray and Aaron Gray, announced the grand opening date for a new location, The Spot EaDo (East Downtown) and the launch of a new community outreach program. The program will sponsor a local business in their new East Downtown shopping center development.
The couple, who opened their original location on Emancipation Avenue in Third Ward, broke ground on a second outpost in 2019. According to a press release, the new EaDo location is a beautifully decorated bar and lounge, sprawled across 4,000 square feet and is slated to open next month. The new location will parallel the original location, offering the same great neighborhood ambiance and hand-crafted cocktails.
The neighborhood bar is also working to broaden its influence in the community. The new Community Investment Business Program opens new avenues for the owners to pay it forward. “My husband and I take pride in being a part of our community and we’re so excited for this new venture,” Adfanie Smith Gray said in a statement.
The husband-and-wife duo continue to deepen their Houston roots through the investment program. The couple is offering support to a local business’ expansion, which includes up to $50,000 in financial resources and professional assistance required for a storefront. Businesses and entrepreneurs were given a chance to submit video entries and business plans to The Spot’s website. The top 10 submissions will be selected for in-person interviews with the program’s community board. A winner will be announced at the Grand Opening.
“We have met so many amazing, hard-working people through our business. As we grow, we want the community to grow with us. This storefront is one way we can give back to make a real impact on someone's business and help make their entrepreneurial dreams come true, right here in the heart of Houston, Texas.”
The Spot EaDo Grand Opening is scheduled for November 11, 2021. For more information, visit the website.
